Clinical Trials
The engine of Alzheimer's research and the path to a cure.
Clinical trials are research studies conducted with human volunteers to determine whether a new drug, prevention strategy, or medical device is safe and effective. Without clinical trials, there can be no new treatments, no prevention, and no cure for Alzheimer's disease.
Why Participate?
- Gain access to potential new treatments before they are widely available.
- Receive expert medical care at leading healthcare facilities during the trial.
- Play a more active role in your own health care.
- Help others by contributing to medical research.
Who Can Participate?
Every clinical trial has rules about who can and cannot participate, called "eligibility criteria." Trials need participants of all different ages, sexes, races, and ethnicities.
Trials need:
- Individuals with Alzheimer's or other dementias.
- Caregivers of those with dementia.
- Healthy volunteers (often called healthy controls) to compare with those who have the disease.
